1:36 AM 8/7/09 · So, of late where Twitter is concerned I've been turning my updates on and off. Rather than go the route of using the system's own option of not sending me tweets in a specified time frame, which I've heard isn't all that reliable, I just send an 'off' and no more tweets come my way until I send an 'on' again.
However, this didn't exactly work come Thursday.
Woke up, sent the 'on' and waited. Didn't get anything which seemed a little odd but then not everybody tweets all the time. I had awakened a little before my alarms went off and the news, clock radio, cleared that up. Twitter apparently, for all intents and purposes, had crashed. There wasn't a lot of information available as to the why of it or how long it would last, although it's still down as I'm typing this, but the evening news was a little more forthcoming...
...though still not saying when Twitter would be back up.
I was a little distracted at the time, missed a chunk of the report, but basically some Russian hacker, for whatever reason, decided to take out Twitter. Say what you will, the guy does great work! Don't know if they caught the guy or much beyond that.
For those of you that avoid the news like a plague, and I know a number of you do, if you are a twit and were wondering what was going on...now you know.
9:59 AM 8/7/09 · Got a little more from the morning news. It has to do with the tensions between Russia & Georgia. Apparently an outspoken supporter of Georgia had accounts at Facebook, Livejournal, & Twitter...and used it to cut down on Russia and promote Georgia. I dunno who this was exactly, no links I'm afraid, but the Russian hacker that took down Twitter did it because of this one person.
As of now I still can't access Twitter from my mobile and won't be able to access the internet for another hour or so. I'm hoping my twit account is still there, regardless of circumstances I was still sending tweets and I'm curious to see if any of those got thru...as much as I'm hoping my account still exists. The news indicated that Twitter should be up by now and maybe my usual method of resetting my update status there might just be on the fritz.
Also kinda hoping only Twitter was having the issues. Heard possibly facebook yesterday roundabout noon...but the mention of livejournal this morning has me a little concerned.
11:16 AM 8/7/2009 · At first I thought everything was hunky dory again but...I seem able to receive updates to my mobile but can't send anything back.
I have a twiiter account for more than one year now and this never happened to me before. On Wednesday I was updating my twitter normally and then when I tried to refresh the page, it kept giving me an error saying that it couldn't connect to the server (I guess twiiter was down for maintenance?). But some time after I refreshed the page again and it loaded the login page. I logged in and most of my tweets were gone (I had 6.660+ and only 150 were left). I don't get what happened. I didn't delete any of these and they won't seen to come back. I'm really sad and disappointed. Can someone tell me if there's a way to get everything back?
Sorry for my poor English. And I hope someone can help me. Thank you in advance!
I really, REALLY miss being able to update my journal via Loudtwitter, throughout the day. (for those who dont know, it was a service that shipped all of your tweets at the end of the day, to your LJ automatically!)
doing it by hand is just too time consuming...:(
has anyone found an alternative??? anything similar at all?
7:39 AM 7/25/09 · As I have any entry for most everybody I know, friends and friends former, in my PalmOne's contact directory, I decided to setup entries for the twits I follow on Twitter. Just to keep track of them and get all of their @'s right. I currently am following 357 and it's a mix of celebrities, people I know in life & livejournal, pornstars, and a number of sockpuppets. That's a lot to remember just from my own wacky memory.
Gotta keep in mind also I tweet from my cellphone and other than what little I do with that, I don't have internet access of my own. I can't check links when people tweet them and I can't just easily view profiles either. This just seemed the simpler way to go.
I get the penguins from the Tux Factory and primarily use them for all entries other than Cracky·McRib's...cuz his would need to be something special given the circumstance. Been looking but haven't found a penguin that quite fits the circumstance.
Recently started adding birthdays, from when @MsTeagan mentioned her's the other day.
Hey, can anyone tell me how I set a picture to be my display picture with Twitpic? I uploaded my picture but it's still showing the brown and blue default icon on my Twitpic account :/ - http://twitpic.com/photos/staceymw91
5:40 PM 7/9/09 · As previously mentioned, here or there, I finally caved and joined Twitter. Took me a bit to get used to it, and I'm a long way to fully getting all the little tricks yet, but I seem to be doing okay...
...hasn't been a full month yet, doesn't seem like it anyway, and I've already got 60 followers.
A litle bit back I went skimming thru the search functions and then thru the follows of my actual friends that're on there. I'm currently following about 100 people, most of which I get SMS redirects to my phone (unlimited textging is a beautiful thing). They're an even mixture of sockpuppets, fetish models, porn stars, and people I either know or are on my LJ friendslist.
It's the basic stuff I'm still struggling with. Apparently 'nudge' before a users name will send them a message to indicate you miss their tweets. If you just type 'stats' it will send you a message back telling you how many you're following and how many follow you. Generally 'b' and then a username will send a personal message but not if that person isn't following you. If you include a name in your own tweets with '@' just before it then they will know you mentioned them in one of your tweets...
...and that's about all I know so far.
If there's a directory of these little commands I haven't seen it yet. Haven't really looked but it wasn't part of my introduction package.
I use LoudTwitter to ship my tweets to my LJ. But they always appear as private postings and I have to change them to public posts by hand. Which sort of eliminates the whole purpose of tweets. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks. :o)
